Viborg, is a town located in Jutland, Denmark. Viborg houses is the municipal-council for both Viborg municipality and Viborg County.
Viborg lies in the heart of Jutland and is renowned for its cathedral, the construction of which started in 1130, but has been burned to the ground more than once. Of the original church, only the tomb has been preserved.
In medieval times, Viborg was a very important city because of its centric position in Jutland. At one time, Viborg is said to have had about twenty monasteries. The very first time a king was anointed; King Hardeknud, it happened in Viborg.
Viborg is scheduled to be regional seat for one of the five new regions under implantation in Denmark.da:Viborg
