Višoy

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

Višoy is the northern-most island in the Faroe Islands, located east of Boršoy to which it is linked via a causeway. The name means 'wood island,' after the driftwood that floats in from elsewhere. The island has two settlements: Hvannasund on the south-east coast and Višareiši on the north-east coast. There are five mountains: Talvbord (557 m), Enni (651 m), Myrnafjall (687 m), Malinsfjall (751 m) and Villingadalsfjall (844 m -) which is the northern-most in the Faroes. The north coast also has the Enniberg cliff, which at 750 m is the highest sea-cliff in Europe.
