Vellinge is a Scanian town and the administrative centre of the Swedish municipality Vellinge Municipality. It is located immediately south of Malmö in southern Sweden. It was formerly called Räng municipality.
The municipality is considered to be one of the most economically well-off in Sweden, politically governed by a stable majority of the economically liberal party Moderaterna. Due to its low taxes, Vellinge is mainly populated by middle class families, many commuting to Malmö (pop. 250,000).
There are four towns in the municipality with a population of over 1,000. All of them are best characterized as affluent suburbs within the metropolitan area of South-Western Scania:
- Höllviken, pop. 9,400 (1,500/km²)
- Ljunghusen, pop. 2,400 (2,250/km²)
- Skanör–Falsterbo, a conurbation with a pop. of 7,100 (1,300/km²)
- Vellinge, pop. 6,000 (2,000/km²)
According to the local language usage, Höllviken, Ljunghusen, and Vellinge are not considered "towns" but rather denoted as "villages". Skanör and Falsterbo, on the other hand, were important medieval towns.
The municipality covers an area of 142.2 km². With a total population of 30,516, the population density is 215/km².
