Václav Kliment Klicpera

Václav Kliment Klicpera (1792-1859) was a Czech playwright, writer, and poet. He was a founder of Czech drama, and was especially influential in the foundation of comedic Czech theater.
Biography
Klicpera was born in Chlumec nad Cidlinou in 1792. After graduating from gymnasium, a type of European school, in 1813, he moved to Prague. There, he studied philosophy in 1816 and learned medicine in 1818. In June, 1819, he was appointed professor at the gymnasium in Hradec Králové. In 1850, he became schoolmaster of a Prague gymnasium.
He had merit in change of chivalric plays in patriotically-themed historical dramas that became the foundation of modern Czech drama. Everlasting worthiness also have his farces (in Czech frašky), in the Platonic tradition. Author of romantic historical stories, plays from his epoch and with fairytale motifs. Klicpera supported the advancement of Czech theatre by issues of plays (edition Divadlo Klicperovo (English: Klicpera's theatre)).
He died in Prague and is now buried in the city's Olšany graveyard.
