Utrecht University (Universiteit Utrecht in Dutch) is a university in Utrecht, The Netherlands. It is one of the oldest universities in the Netherlands, and one of the largest in Europe. Established March 26, 1636, it had an enrollment of 24,628 students in 2003, and employed 7,863 faculty and staff, 640 of which are full professors. In 2003, 412 Ph.D.-diplomas were awarded and 7074 scientific articles were published. The 2003 budget of the university was 641 million euro.
Utrecht University is led by the University Board, consisting of Yvonne van Rooy (president), prof.dr. Willem Hendrik Gispen (rector magnificus) and Willem Kardux. In 2005, a reform of the organisitorial structure of the university is to be executed, resulting in a reduction of the number of faculties to six:

- Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences
- Faculty of Veterinary Medicine
- Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences
The two large faculties of Humanities and Law are situated in the inner city of Utrecht. The other four faculties, as well as most of the administrative services, are located in De Uithof, a campus area in the outskirts of the city.
The university's motto is "Sol Iustitiae Illustra Nos", which means "Sun of Justice, shine upon us".
