Ursula Cowgill
From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.
Ursula M. Cowgill is a biologist and anthropologist who worked for Yale University , Dow Chemical Company and the University of Colorado during the second half of the 20th century. Her work includes studies of prehistoric agriculture in Mexico, seasons of birth in human beings, the relationship between cultural gender bias and infant mortality, and the possible role of selenium in reducing mortality from AIDS. She also kept a colony of pottos for many years and published a series of observations on their behaviour.
Few biographical details are available, but Cowgill's first published work appeared in the late 1950s, and she was still living in Colorado as of 2003. During the 1950s and '60s Cowgill worked closely with George Evelyn Hutchinson, who is known as 'the father of modern limnology.' [1] (http://lakes.chebucto.org/PEOPLE/hutchins.html)
