University of Yangôn

The University of Yangon is the most prestigious and the oldest university in Myanmar. Established in 1878 as an affiliate of University of Calcutta, Rangoon College was operated and managed by the British, who colonized Myanmar, formerly Burma. In 1920, Rangoon College became the Rangoon University. Although formerly known as the Rangoon Arts and Sciences University (or R.A.S.U.), today, it is known as the University of Yangon or Yangon University.

Location
The University of Yangôn is located in the capital city of Myanmar, Yangon. The university itself is located along the shorelines of Inya Lake. It is located on the corner of Pyay Road and University Avenue Road. The university is in Kamayut Township, north of downtown Yangon.
Yangon University Diamond Jubilee
Yangon University celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in a week long celebration. This occurred on 1st December 1995. This marked the school's establishment of approximately 75 years.
Programs
Yangon University offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes. The undergraduate programmes are in Arts, Sciences, and Law. Postgraduate degrees are separated into three groups, Doctorates, Master's, and diplomas.
Institutes of Medicine
The Institutes of Medicine are branches of the University of Yangon. They are respectively called Institute of Medicine-I and Institute of Medicine-II and offer a M.D. equivalent, with a degree known as "M.B.B.S.". The Institute of Medicine-I is located in Lanmadaw Township, near downtown Yangon, and is older, and the Institute of Medicine-II is located in Okkalapa Township, out in the Yangon suburbs.
