The phrase University of Nevada by itself usually refers to the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), because that was the name by which it was known during the 80 years in which it was the only university in the state of Nevada.

More broadly, University of Nevada could refer to either of the universities in the University and Community College System of Nevada (UCCSN):

• University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV)
• University of Nevada, Reno (UNR)
