Ukraine International
From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.
Ukraine International is the main airline of Ukraine, based in Kyiv.
The airline was created in 1993 to replace Air Ukraine and its ageing fleet on runs between Kyiv and points in West Europe.
It is majority-owned by the government of Ukraine. Other shareholders include EBRD and Austrian Airlines
It flies a fleet of Boeing 737 Classic planes to Paris, London, Frankfurt, Madrid, Vienna, Zurich and other international destinations, with a system of domestic flights feeding traffic to its base in Boryspil
Its ambitious growth plans that included expansion into Eastern Europe and North America, were brought to a halt by a rapid expansion of domestic rival, private Aerosvit Airlines. Seeing the route authorities being squatted up by its more aggressive competitor, Ukraine International had to concentrate on its core Western European destinations and domestic flying.
