United Nations Disengagement Observer Force
UNDOF was established by the United Nations in 1974 following the agreed disengagement of the Israeli and Syrian forces on the Golan Heights, at the end of the 1973 Yom Kippur War.
UNDOF continues the supervision of the ceasefire.
About a thousand troops are provided by Austria, Canada, Japan, Nepal, Poland, and Slovakia. There have been 40 fatalities since 1974.
