Tsuzumi

A tsuzumi is an hourglass-shaped drum introduced from Asia in the 17th century. The name is derived from Sanskrit. There are two varieties: the larger otsuzumi and the smaller kotsuzumi. Both are used in Noh and Kabuki performances.
