In Scrabble, a triple word score, is a premium scoring space. When a word on the board covers a "Triple Word Score" space, the word scores three times as much as it normally would. If a word is played which covers two triple word squares, its score is multiplied by nine. On the board, a "Triple Word Score" space is designated by a dark red colour.

In the pictorial example to the right, the Q and the S (blank) in the word quetzals cover "Triple Word Score" squares, tripling the score for the word twice, for 315 points (plus 50 points more for playing all seven tiles, for a total score of 365). As only seven tiles can be played in one turn, covering two triple word score squares requires at least one letter to have already been played between the squares, as the E is in the example.
