Tonopah, Arizona

Tonopah, Arizona is an unincorporated town located in western Maricopa County, approximately 50 miles west of downtown Phoenix off Interstate 10. The town is near the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, the largest nuclear power plant in the US. Tonopah is known in the area for its hot springs and native american artifacts (arrowheads, pottery shards, etc.). Tonopah means "Hot Water Under The Bush" because of the hot springs originating from the subterrean lake that exists beneath the area. Tempuratures of 90 degrees F and above are not unheard of from wells in the area.
