Ticket of Leave
From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.
A ticket of leave was a document given to a convict in one of the Australian Penal colonies prior to the end of the convict's sentence. It was similar to a parole system. Convicts who had behaved well were allowed some freedom to live within a prescribed area and under prescribed rules. Those convicts were brought from England to Australia and the current day Australians are (mostly) descendents of these criminals.
