Thermogenics

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

Thermogenics are dietary supplements taken to increase the body's metabolism through the generation of heat (thermogenesis) and thus burn fat.

Thermogenics are popular among bodybuilders as a means to achieve low body fat levels. Products claimed to have thermogenic properties include naturally occurring substances such as ginger and caffeine, as well as proprietary supplements from sports nutrition companies.

Ephedrine-related products formed part of a popular combination called the ECA stack (ephedrine, caffeine, aspirin). However, on February 6, 2004, the FDA issued a final rule banning the sale of ephedrine alkaloids (ephedra) in dietary supplements.
