The Truth About Hillary:What She Knew, When She Knew It, and How Far She'll Go to Become President is a biography written about Senator Hillary Clinton by bestselling non-fiction author Edward Klein.
The 336 page book was released by Sentinel Press on June 21, 2005. Later that day Klein was interviewed by American conservative talk radio host Sean Hannity about the book.
Controversial
The book will most likely be considered controversial due to the personal nature of the attacks levelled at Hillary Clinton, many of which seek to raise questions over her sexuality.
In writing the book Klein is said to have extensively researched Hillary Clinton's past and interviewed many people close to Clinton and her husband. One of these sources, reputedly a close friend of Bill Clinton, claims that the Clintons' daughter Chelsea was conceived after Hillary was raped by her husband in Bermuda. Reviewers have found these views indicative of the tone of the book, and Hillary Clinton's press secretary has stated that "This is a book full of blatant and vicious fabrications contrived by someone who writes trash for cash" [1] (http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/book-hits-hillary-with-sex-slur/2005/06/22/1119321792742.html).
Pre-release quotes
Prior to the release of the book Matt Drudge claimed that "the revelations in [the book] should sink Hillary's candidacy for 2008". However another commentator, Joe Conason, wrote that "citizens hoping to discover anything new about the famous junior Senator from New York shouldn’t waste their time or money on his unoriginal and unreliable rant" [2] (http://www.nyobserver.com/pages/conason.asp).
