The Street is:
- an informal name for the UK TV programme Coronation Street.
- a term used in reference to shareholders, stock brokers, financial analysts and others in this field. It derives from Wall Street, where much of the stock trading in the United States takes place. It is often used in contexts such as the following:
"We didn't make our internal numbers, though we beat The Street for Q1."
Meaning:
"We didn't reach our internal goal for revenue but exceeded our projected, externally announced goal for revenue in the first quarter."
