The Pink Panther Strikes Again
From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.
The Pink Panther Strikes Again is the fourth film in the Pink Panther series (although only the third to include the words "Pink Panther" in its title, despite the fact that the story does not involve the Pink Panther diamond of the previous films) and continues the story after the end of The Return of the Pink Panther.
Unused footage from the film was later included in Trail of the Pink Panther.
The story begins with former Chief Inspector Charles Dreyfus getting out of the sanitarium, kidnapping Professor Fassbender (Richard Vernon) and forcing him to build a disintegrator ray. This is all part of Dreyfus's elaborate plot to get rid of Clouseau by blackmailing world leaders into assasinating him.
Clouseau travels to England to investigate Fassbender's disappearance, with typically chaotic results, as Scotland Yard Superintendent Quinlan (Leonard Rossiter) learns painfully. Meanwhile Dreyfus disintegrates the United Nations headquarters in New York City.
Forced to take Dreyfus's threat seriously, several nations send hit men to kill Clouseau, but in his usual bumbling fashion Clouseau manages to evade each assassination attempt just as it is about to happen, and the assassins end up killing each other instead. The only survivors are the Egyptian and Soviet Russian operatives. The Russian, Olga Bariosova (Lesley-Anne Down) seduces the Egyptian (an uncredited cameo by Omar Sharif), mistaking him for Clouseau. His passionate lovemaking convinces her not to assassinate him, and when he is replaced by the real Clouseau she confuses him by declaring her undying love.
Clouseau eventually infiltrates Dreyfus's castle hideout disguised as a dentist, pulls one of Dreyfus's good teeth and intoxicates him with nitrous oxide. Laughing hysterically, Dreyfus orders Clouseau killed, but he escapes and manages to redirect the disintegrator so that it destroys Dreyfus's castle and (apparently) Dreyfus himself.
Returning to Paris, Clouseau is reunited with Olga, but their romantic evening is interrupted by Cato (Burt Kwouk), still under orders to keep Clouseau on his toes by randomly attacking him, and they all end up in the Seine.
