The Nights Dawn Trilogy

The Nights Dawn Trilogy are a series of books written by the English science fiction writer Peter F. Hamilton in the late nineties. The books which compose the trilogy are entitled, "The Reality Dysfunction", "The Neutronium Alchemist" and "The Naked God".
The trilogy has spawned two spin off books. These are called "A Second Chance at Eden" and "A Guide to the Confederation".
the plot
in the 26th century mankind is united in a golden age of space exploration. humanity has spawned two distinct cultures. the adamists who use digital and fusion based technology to travel the stars and settle on planets and edenists who live in giant living space stations orbiting gas giants. they are linked by a kind of telepathy called affinity to their home, ships, and eachother. they live in idealized egaltarian society who reject all religion because upon death they transfer there memories into their habitat space stations making them somewhat immortal. both distinct cultures are united in an organization called the Confederacy.
on a isolated planet called Lalonde, a threat unlike anything humanity has ever encountered before is awakened. It threatens to destroy all that humanity has built and dreamed.
