The New Yankee Workshop
From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.
The New Yankee Workshop is a woodworking program which airs on PBS. Created in 1989 by Russell Morash, the program is hosted by the affable Norm Abram, a regular fixture on Morash's This Old House.
The New Yankee Workshop (often abbreviated TNYW, or more popularly NYW) features the construction of woodworking projects ranging from utility accessories, to tables and chairs, to outdoor furnishings, to complex, high quality reproductions of antique classical furniture.
Critics often tweak Abram and TNYW for the high percentage of use of power tools, and in fact, in woodworking circles, power tool aficionados are called "normites" (woodworkers who prefer hand tools are called "neanderthals" or "galoots").
The shop itself is owned by Morash and its location is portrayed as a closely guarded secret. The property is also the site of The Victory Garden, another Morash production.
