The Lady of the Camellias (French: La Dame aux Camélias) is a novel by Alexandre Dumas, fils, first published in 1848.
The book has been adapted as a play, a film (starring Greta Garbo), a ballet and (its greatest enduring success) as an opera (La Traviata, by Verdi). The film Moulin Rouge, starring Nicole Kidman, is also loosely based on the same story.
It is a story of a young man who has an affair with a courtesan, Marguerite. His father ends the affair, and Marguerite dies.
