The Good Doctor
From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.
Neil Simon's The Good Doctor is a play composed of a series of scenes in which the only connecting thread is the character of the Writer, a curious amalgamation of Simon himself and Anton Chekhov. Written in the style of Chekhovian comedy, this play was a reaction to the fatal illness of his wife. Simon found solace in Chekhov's work, having learned that the Russian's wife had also died young, of tuberculosis.
The Good Doctor is also the name of a novel by the South African writer Damon Galgut.
