The Cable Guy
From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.
The Cable Guy is a 1996 movie directed by Ben Stiller. The film stars Jim Carrey as the cable guy (an installer for a cable television company), Matthew Broderick as Steven, Leslie Mann as Robin (Steven's ex-girlfriend), and Jack Black as Rick (Steven's friend). The story warns of the dangers of parents not paying enough attention to their children and allowing them to watch too much television.
The movie has a dark atmosphere and was not a commercial success, with many critics claiming that the humour fell flat, unlike Carrey's earlier successes, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Dumb & Dumber.
The Cable Guy contains many references to other movies (like The Silence of the Lambs when the cable guy and Steven are at the Medieval Times watching the show) and television series (including Bewitched and Star Trek).
