The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is a stage and film musical written by Larry F. King based on the Texas Chicken Ranch.

The stage musical opened in 1978 and the film was released in 1982. Both versions feature songs by Carol Hall; the movie version also featured two songs by its star, Dolly Parton, including "I Will Always Love You", which would be recorded by Whitney Houston a decade later, becoming a huge hit. The movie version also starred Burt Reynolds. The original Broadway cast starred Carlin Glynn and Henderson Forsythe. The story is about a whorehouse in Texas in the late 1970's. It has operated for more than a century but a crusading television reporter calls for it to be shut down, leading to its demise.
