Taurage

Tauragė (Polish: Taurogi, German: Tauroggen) is an industrial town in western Lithuania and the capital of Tauragė County. It lies close to the Russian border (Kaliningrad Oblast) and to the Baltic Sea. Tauragė had 31,000 inhabitants in 2003.

  • Orthodox church from 1853
  • Catholic church from 1904
  • Castle (currently school and regional museum)

History

One of the major residences of the Radziwiłł family since 1655. Tauragė was also a place of prison for Polish officers in 1940.
