Tara river, Montenegro

Tara is a river in Montenegro. Near the border with Bosnia, it forms the river Drina together with the river Piva.
The canyon of the river Tara is the deepest canyon in Montenegro at 1,300 m depth. The canyon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Bosnian and the Montenegran government had plans to flood the Tara gorge, with the contruction of a hydroelectric dam in the Drina river. However, it has abandoned this plan in April 2005 after protests
In the area of Serbia to the north there is a Tara mountain and Tara National Park. The Tara river is situated in the Durmitor national park.
