Tabi

Tabi (足袋) are traditional Japanese ankle high, divided-toe socks. They are worn with traditional Japanese clothing such as kimono, and with traditional Japanese footwear such as zori or geta. Tabi are worn by both men and women. The most common colour is white; white tabi are worn during tea ceremony and with formal wear, but men sometimes wear black tabi. There are also patterned and coloured tabi. They are worn most often by women.
There are also tabi that resemble boots and function as footwear rather than as socks. They are made of a thicker, tougher material, often with a rubber sole, and are worn by construction workers, gardeners, and rickshaw-pullers.
