Stuart A. Rice

Stuart Alan Rice (born January 6, 1932 in New York City) is an American theoretical chemist and physical chemist. He is currently the Frank P. Hixon Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus at The University of Chicago and was formerly Dean of the Physical Sciences Division. He has done considerable research on surfaces and colloidal systems, and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences. He has coauthored several physical chemistry textbooks with Stephen Berry and John Ross. He has advised over 100 doctoral students during his career and received the National Medal of Science in 1999. He maintains a full lab with six doctoral students (as of 2005).
