- A single act of striking with a weapon
- In golf, a single act of striking at the ball with a club
- In tennis, the hitting of a ball with a racket
- In rowing, the movement of an oar or paddle through water
- In a steam, Otto or Diesel piston engine, the total up or down distance moved by any one piston during its cycle
