Specialist degree

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

The Specialist Degree is most often found in programs in specialized education and is awarded for study beyond the masters degree but below the doctorate.

EdS programs typically require about 60-70 semester hours beyond the bachelors degree and most often requires significant experience and an MA/MS/MEd as an entry prerequisite. Most commonly, the EdS program is a professional degree program in the application of advanced educational theory and not an academic/research degree such as the EdD or PhD.

School Psychology and Curriculum and Instruction are two of the most common areas where the EdS is found. In many fields outside of education, the post-graduate certificate fills the same need.
