In gardening, a spade is a hand tool used to dig ground, or to break up clumps in the soil. It is sometimes considered a type of shovel. It consists of a handle with a metal blade.
In game playing, a spade is one of a set of 13 cards (a card suit) in a deck of English playing cards. It is shaped like an inverted black heart with a small stem, deriving its name from the shape of the head of a garden spade. See spades.
