SONIPAT earlier known as SONPRASTHA,Later as SWARNPRASTHA,apbramsha altered to SWARNPAT,,,,is presently known as SONIPAT.this district touches delhi on one end,panipat on the other,the yamuna river acting as a border in one direction and rohtak on the other side. The most earlier evidence of this city comes in MAHABHARATA, when it was one of the 5 villages demanded by the PANDAWAS in lieu of the kingdom of HASTINAPUR.
IT is in modern day a jat heartland with Dahiya,Malik and various other gotras residing in the rural areas.it is an upcoming industrial center.It is one of the main educational centers of north india with pretigious schools like MOTILAL NEHRU SCHOOL OF SPORTS, RAI., popularly known as sports school rai.
