Solitary wave

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

A solitary wave is a special sort of solution of a non-linear partial differential equation. Specifically it is a solution that for two specific variables only depends on their difference. Thus, it is translated and keeps its shape in those directions.

If multiple solitary waves can be scattered of each other while asymptotically keeping their shape they are called solitons.
