Skara Municipality

Skara is a Municipality in Västra Götaland County, in western Sweden. The municipality covers an area of 439.3 km². Of the total population of 18 305, 8 971 are male, and 9 334 are female. The population density of the community is 42 inhabitants per km².
Skara was, according to local legend, founded in AD 988, making it one of the oldest cities in Sweden. At this time it was one of only two cities in what was to become Westrogothia, the other being Lödöse. In AD 1050 it became a bishop's see, which it remains to this day.
