Ulyanovsk

Ulyanovsk (Улья́новск, formerly Simbirsk (Симби́рск)) is a city on the Volga River in Russia. Both Vladimir Lenin and Alexander Kerensky were born there.

Geographical location 54°19′ N 48°22′ E (http://kvaleberg.com/extensions/mapsources/index.php?params=54_19_N_48_22_E_) Population (2002): 635,600.

Ulyanovsk is the administrative center of Ulyanovsk Oblast.

The city, founded in 1796, was known as Simbirsk prior to 1924 when it was renamed in honor of Vladimir Ulyanov, better known as Lenin.

Simbirsk defied all of Stenka Razin's efforts to capture it.
