Shoshone is a census-designated place located in Inyo County, California. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 52.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 74.4 km² (28.7 mi²). 74.4 km² (28.7 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 52 people, 26 households, and 17 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 0.7/km² (1.8/mi²). There are 34 housing units at an average density of 0.5/km² (1.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 88.46% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 5.77% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 5.77% from two or more races. 7.69% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 26 households out of which 15.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.8% are married couples living together, 11.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.8% are non-families. 26.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.00 and the average family size is 2.22.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 11.5% under the age of 18, 0.0% from 18 to 24, 21.2% from 25 to 44, 28.8% from 45 to 64, and 38.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 56 years. For every 100 females there are 85.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 76.9 males.
