Shigatse

Shigatse (also Zhigatse (Zhi-ga-tse), Xigatse, Tibetan: གཞི་ཀ་རྩེ་; Wylie transliteration: Gzhi-ka-rtse;; Modified Wiley: gzhi-ka-rtsa; Chinese: 日喀则; pinyin: Rìkāzé) is the second largest city in Tibet with a population of 80,000. It is located at the confluence of the Yarlong Tsangpo (Yar-lung Gtsang-po) (or Brahmaputra) and Nyangchu (Nyang-chu) rivers in west Tibet and was the ancient capital of Tsang. It is also the name of the surrounding county.
