Shell theorem

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

In Newtonian physics, the shell theorem states that the gravity due to a uniform spherical shell is zero on an object inside the shell, and acts on an object outside the shell as if the entire mass of the shell were at its center. By extension, the same can be said of a spherically symmetric object (or one that is nearly so, such as all relatively large celestial bodies).
