From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.
The Shaheen missile was developed by National Defence Complex (NDC), a subsidiary of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) which was formed in 1993, under the guidance of Dr. Samar Mubarik Mand. The Shaheen missile is an Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) with an optimal range of 2500 km. Sources indicate that Pakistan is preparing to launch a Ballistic Missile (BM) with a range of 3000+ km.
The Shaheen missile can carry both a conventional and non-conventional payload. It is powered by a solid propellant engine; making it a fast response weapon as compared to Ghauri or Agni missile. Other missiles currently in the service of Pakistan are; Hatf 1A (BRBM), Abdali (BRBM), Ghaznavi (SRBM), Ghauri (IRBM).
Pakistan is also developing cruise missiles in response to India's Brahmos cruise missile. The Brahmos cruise missile was the result of collaboration between India and Russia. ja:シャヒーン
