Sembach Air Base

Sembach AB, Germany is a U.S. Air Force installation located off of B-40 near Kaiserslautern, Germany. In 1995 it became an annex of Ramstein Air Base and was renamed Sembach Annex.
History
Sembach's origins date back to 1919 during World War I when French occupation troops used the base. After their withdrawal in 1930, the airfield returned to agricultural use.
In March 1951, that the site was chosen to be an air base again. On 1 September, U.S. authorities officially took over the construction site from the French and named it Sembach Air Auxiliary Field. In 1953, the installation was renamed Sembach AB.
In July 1953, the first aircraft arrived, B-26 followed by F-80 and T-33. In 1958, aircraft operations began to decline. Sembach was inactivated on 1 July 1959. It reactivated that September 1959, and Sembach became USAFE primary missile base.
Seventeenth Air Force moved in on 5 October, 1971. Revetments and a dozen hardened aircraft shelters were built and A-10 operations began in May 1979. On 31 July 1991. In 1995 the flightline returned to German control and the site became an annex of Ramstein Air Base and was renamed Sembach Annex.
