- A season, for temperate regions, is one of the four major divisions of the year (spring, summer, autumn and winter).
- For most tropical regions, the seasons is usually divided into a wet and dry season.
- In agriculture, the growing season is the period of the year when crops can be grown.
- In organized sports, a season is the portion of the year in which games are in session.
- Within Christian churches, the Liturgical Year is divided into seasons.
- In broadcasting, a season is generally a one-year cycle in the production of an on-going Television program.
- In clothing retailing, a season is a cycle of product changes attuned to the seasons of the year and major traditional social cycles: back-to-school, fall, holiday, winter, resort, spring, summer.
- In society, the Season (or social season) is the portion of the year, generally late autumn or mid-winter through early or mid-summer, when the members of polite society of a city can be expected to be resident in town (as opposed to the country), and when debutante balls, dinner parties, and charity galas are held.
