Saturday Night - The Album
From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.
Saturday Night! - The Album is a spectacular vinyl recording of pre-gangster rap pioneer Schooly D, who is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Schooly has gone on to record cds including Smoke Some Kill and has composed music for television's Aqua Teen Hunger Force produced by Williams Street Studios in Atlanta, Georgia and seen on The Cartoon Network which originates in America.
1986's Saturday Night - The Album has a clear cold deep melodious sound that is quite non-threatening in its tone. Its sentiments are warm and seem revolutionary in their deep personal positivity, which positivity is matched with a pleasingly refreshing sense of humor as befits the composer of the theme of the Aqua Teen show. This product lies at the dub reggae end of the rap music spectrum even though it does not contain reggae as such. The album cover is printed in dark yellow, white and black and features a humorous 1980s era amateurish rap graffiti-style cartoon illustration. The back of the album cover includes the phone number of the act's management.
Tracks
- We Get Ill
- Dedication to all b-boys
- Get "n" paid
- B-Boy rhyme and riddle
- Saturday night
- It's crack
It's Crack ends the album in monumental form with the words "It's A Black Hole" delivered very emotionally and convincingly after one of the longest, dubbest instrumental bridges in the rap catalog. The musical tone of Saturday Night is reflected in Schooly D's choice of the Led Zeppelin song Kashmir as the vehicle for a memorable track on Smoke Some Kill, a dryer and more mainstream full length recording that follows some years after Saturday Night, in 1988.
As Schooly D, who is listed as J.B. Weaver, Jr. at the center of the vinyl, is a well known rapper from Philadelphia, he is often linked academically to D.J. Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince who include the famous Will Smith as The Fresh Prince.
