Salote Tupou III

Salote Tupou III (1900-1965) was Queen of Tonga from 1918 to 1965. She was the daughter of King George Tupou II and the mother of Taufa'ahau Tupou IV. She attended the coronation of Queen Elizabeth in London. She was a keen writer and author of "Ko e Tohi 'a 'Eine 'Afio ko Kuini Salote Tupou" and of "Ko e Ngaahi Tahi 'a 'Eine 'Afio 1958-1959". She served the Chairman of the Tonga Traditions Committee 1954-1965, patronised the Tonga Red Cross Society and was also the 21st and last Tu'i Kanokupolu. She died 16th December 1965 at Aotea Hospital, Auckland.
