Russian Ground forces

Russian Ground forces of the Russian military currently consist of military districts of command (Moscow, Leningrad, North-Caucasian, Volga-Ural, Siberian and Far-Eastern), armies, army corps, motorized rifle (tank), artillery and machine-gun artillery divisions, fortified regions, brigades, individual military units, military establishments, and other enterprises and organizations.
- Motorized rifle troops are Russia's most numerous branch of service, which constitute the basis of ground forces and is the nucleus of their battle formations. They are equipped with powerful armament for destruction of ground-based and aerial targets, missile complexes, tanks, artillery and mortars, anti-tank guided missiles, antiaircraft missile systems and installations, effective means of reconnaissance and control.
- Tank troops are the main impact force of ground forces and the powerful means of armed struggle, intended for the solution of the most important problems in different forms of war shooting.
- Missile troops and artillery are the main firepower and the most important operational means when combating large groups of enemies.
- Troops' air defense is a basic set of weapons designed to destroy aerial enemys, consisting of anti-aircraft missiles, anti-aircraft artillery and radio-technical units and subdivisions.
Fulfilling some of the more unsual tasks that confront Russian Ground forces is ensured by regiments specialized in engineering, and dealing with radiation and chemical and biological warfare.
