Royal Armouries

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

The Royal Armouries houses the British national collection of arms and armour. The collection spreads across three sites: The Royal Armouries Museum, HM Tower of London and Fort Nelson, Portsmouth.

The Museum

The museum, located in Leeds, West Yorkshire, opened in 1996. It has five galleries covering War, Tournament, Self-Defence, Hunting and the arms and armour of the Orient. There are year-round live demonstrations of jousting and falconry which take place in the tiltyard. Inside, interpretations of history are performed, such as demonstrations of various sword fighting techniques. Visitors can watch armourers producing weapons.
