RNA polymerase II

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

RNA polymerase II (also called Pol II or RNAP II) transcribes DNA to synthesize precursors of mRNA and most snRNA. A 550 kDa complex of 12 subunits, it is the most studied type of RNA polymerase. Transcription factors are required for it to bind to its promoters and begin transcription.
