Róta

From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.

In Norse mythology Róta was one of the valkyries. According to the Prose Edda she attended the battle fields along with Gunnr and Skuld and chose those who were to be slain and taken to Valhalla. Apart from this mention she is all but unknown.

Her name occurs in the kenning "reifandi gnýţings götva geir-Rótu" meaning the enricher of the loud congress of the garments of spear-Róta, i.e. warrior. [1] (http://www.hi.is/~eybjorn/ugm/kennings/r2voca.html)
