Quagga mussel
From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.
North American range of the Quagga Mussel.
The Quagga mussel is native to the country of Ukraine. In the 1990s, it invaded the Great Lakes region of the United States and continues to cause many of the same problems (damaging boats, power plants, and harbours and destroying the native mussel population) of the equally invasive Zebra mussel of Russia. The Quagga shell is striped as with the Zebra shell, but the Quagga version tends to be paler in color and the stripe lines are generally finer.
