Princess Sophia of Gloucester

Princess Sophia of Gloucester, Sophia Matilda (May 29, 1773 - November 29, 1844) was a member of the British Royal Family, a niece of King George III.
Sophia was born on May 29, 1773 in London. Her father was His Royal Highness Prince William Henry, Duke of Gloucester, the third eldest son of Frederick, Prince of Wales. Her mother was Maria Walpole, Countess of Waldegrave, the illegitimate daughter of Edward Walpole. As a great granddaughter in the male line of King George II, Sophia was held the title of a princess with the style Her Highness.
On July 22, 1816 Sophia's brother, His Highness Prince William, Duke of Gloucester married their cousin, Her Royal Highness The Princess Mary, a daughter of King George III. On their wedding day, the Prince Regent bestowed the style of His Royal Highness on Prince William of Gloucester. The next day Sophia was also bestowed with the style Her Royal Highness to give her equal rank with her brother.
Sophia died on November 29, 1844 and is buried in St. George's Chapel, Windsor. She never married or had children.
