Plasmodesmata
From Biocrawler, the free encyclopedia.
Plasmodesmata (Singular, plasmodesma) are small cell junctions in a plant cell which connect the cytoplasm of adjacent plant cells, forming a circulatory and communication system connecting the cells in plant tissue. Cytoplasmatic fluid of cells are extended from one cell to another, allowing water and other small molecules to pass from cell to cell. Through the plasmodesmata, cells of a plant tissue can share water, nourishment and chemical messages.
